Tools required

4mm Allen wrench

#2 Phillips head screwdriver

Torque wrench

Installation:

Remove the Right Shifter’s I-Spec Integration Unit

NOTE: Let’s be honest with ourselves—we’re going to be messing with the innards of a shifter. Make sure to be working in a clean, open space so you can keep track of everything. If you’ve ever tried to find small replacement parts for these types of components, you know: DON’T LOSE ANYTHING!

NOTE: We demonstrate this installation using a Shimano Saint Shifter (SL-M820-I). While most of the steps are the same, we STRONGLY RECOMMEND you visit Shimano’s website to view the installation instructions and diagram of your shifter: techdocs.shimano.com

1. Start by removing the top bolt of the unit using a 4mm Allen wrench (figures 1–2). Save this bolt; you’re going to need it.

2. Flip over the shifter, identify and remove the four screws holding the bottom plate (figure 3).

3. With the bottom plate removed, identify and remove the screw holding the I-Spec integration unit in place (figure 4).Pull off the I-Spec integration unit and put that screw right back in there for safekeeping (figure 5).

4. Reassemble the shifter.
Attach MisMatch Adapter to the Shifter

5. Using the bolt you removed in Step 1, attach the Problem Solvers MisMatch adapter to the shifter (figures 6–7). Torque: 2.5Nm (22 in-lbf).

6. With your Avid brake levers and MatchMaker installed according to Avid’s instructions (www.sram.com/avid), attach the MisMatch Adapter to the brake lever using the M5 x 10mm bolt (figures 8–10). Torque: 5Nm (44 in-lb).
7. Repeat these steps for the left shifter.
Ongoing Maintenance
